Classic version of Risk well done

| If you're a fan of the classic board game Risk but don't have willing playing partners or hours to play a game, then you will enjoy this PC download version. You can select the skill level of your computerized opponents and play anywhere from a 3-player to 6-player game. The best thing is that if you select the "quick battle" option, all of the tedious dice rolling is done instantly. A 10-minute battle becomes a 1 second battle - that shortens game time from hours to minutes. I just completed a 6-player game in about 15 minutes. The graphics are very good, a bit old school but true to the board game. The only drawbacks are that you cannot back out of certain actions - for instance, once you click a country to be the source of reinforcements, you can't back out of that. Second complaint: the difficulty level doesn't seem too high. Even the more "skilled" electronic generals make bad mistakes that a mid-level player like me can spot and take advantage of. Other than those slight drawbacks, this is a great game for Risk fans. |
A Simple Risk Game

| If you are looking for a classic risk game with traditional rules, board, and game play, then this download is for you. Graphics are well done. Nothing looks fuzzy or looks like it belongs back in the late 1980's. Gameplay is easy to set up. Turns are smooth and don't take much time. However, if you are looking for something that has more "meat on the bone", then you will become bored with this download. What I mean by that is that most Risk games including the board games will have capitol capture and mission objective variations to the rules. I have a Risk computer for Windows 95/98. This game has in depth maps of just the continents and general led gameplay with battle tactics cards. This download has none of that. In summary, this is just simple, well done risk game, but those looking for more will be bored. |
Good at first, but too easy overall

I love Risk but unfortuneatly the computer generals in this version are just too easy to beat. This game would really rock if they had an online version to compete with other players. Even choosing random territory assignment and placing myself last after all the top ranked generals, I still win every time. Boring.
UPDATE: I have since purchased Risk 2 and it has all the things this one lacked. It is more challenging and has online gameplay. I would recommend skipping this version and buying the second version for $3 more, it's worth it! |
Not as good as Risk and Risk II from the '90's, but not bad

This version of Risk is dumbed-down when compared to Risk and Risk II from the '90's, that is true. There's not much in the way of options.
However, as a faithful version of the board game it is good enough. The graphics and presentation are quite nice. The real upshot is that it runs on Vista and runs without the CD which works well for my lap top. (Risk II does this as well, but it is a little more complicated to run it on Vista.)
If you are looking for a fun time-waster on a flight, pick this up. If you are playing Risk on a desktop PC, I'd say pick up the older, more robust versions. |
