I purchased this ottoman as a lightning deal. I knew it was a “band box” but planed on using it as a typical ottoman for storage of other various things. No doubt it seems like it would function well for those into the band video game trend. There is plenty of room inside the box.
It comes with a metal arm that collapses into the box to support a drum peripheral. It seemed pretty sturdy and functions much like your typical collapsible leg on a folding table. Seeing as I did not need this I removed it from the box fairly easily. There are about 8 screws holding it in but all fairly easy to get to.
The box also has two black notched holders for the guitar peripheral. They also seem like they would work well for holding a single guitar. I did not remove these as there are no visible screws and the box has plenty of room with the still mounted. In fact they are now serving as a convenient way to hold some magazines.
If the dimensions and price sound better to you than other ottomans I’d say go for it. Also as others mentioned the legs are shorter. In fact they are basically non-existent. you need to screw them on manually and they are just about a quarter of an inch piece of plastic. More or less used to help slide the box better rather than for any type of support.

The red fabric that lines the interior is a little cheap and you can tell the drum stand was welded by an ameteur but all in all it’s a good value. It’s long enough to store a guitar controller and it stores a lot of our living room clutter. It is also big enough for two people to sit on which is an added bonus.

I was very disappointed in this purchase. You have to disassemble the quitars and drum to get them to fit. The drum base has to be completely taken apart including the screws and legs that are not made to be removed so you can’t really put it back together easily. It’s made to replace the base but unfortunately the arm they use to replace the base of the drum set wobbles and you have to move the Ottoman which they warn scratches the floor but has no handles to lift. It is a plain black cheap vinyl coating that isn’t too ugly but its not attractive either so my wife was sort of OK with it it the game room. However my kids hated it as the drum stand is very awkward to sit next to and it takes too much time to assemble everything. Also the controllers cannot got inside because there is no hole to run power inside to keep them charged. I saw a much better version at Costco and I wish I had purchased that one.

This ottoman is fantatic! All the band stuff fits in the box along with other gaming items such as balance board w/snow board. The felt interior is awesome and molding hold the guitar and drums perfectly. Not to mention it looks great. I also love the fact this box can double as a cusioned bench to sit on without fear of damaging it. Best purchase for my WII… and would recommend to anyone who has Rock Band gear!

I grabbed the Cohesion BandBox during Amazon’s extended Black Friday event during the ‘09 holiday season. I had found that between my Rock Band and Guitar Hero habit, my living room was getting very cluttered with little plastic instruments. Since the AK Rock Box Gaming and Storage Ottoman with Drum Lift (Black) was showing out of stock / not available, this seemed like the obvious choice.
What’s good?
First off, there’s a ton of space inside the box. Drums, mic, guitar and bass can easily fit inside with no problem. Unfortunately if you have both Guitar Hero and Rock Band drums, you’re still out of luck, this won’t hold both at the same time. As long as you don’t mind the guitars lying on top of each other, you could probably fit four or more inside of the box (a lot more if you’re not including the drums).
The drum mount does extend the height of the drums quite a bit – so if you’re a tall drummer who’s always lamented the extremely short height range of the plastic drums, this might be worth looking into.
What’s bad?
The “drum mount” is a two piece item, the actual rod which is attached to the storage bench folds up and down for easy clean up. Unfortunately the mount that’s attached to the drums has to come off every time you’re done playing. It’s not a hard breakdown, but it just seemed silly that there was no way to store the drums without disassembling the stand.
If you’re still on the corded instruments, there are no cord holes to thread through. So you can either leave the instruments plugged in and the cords hanging out of the mouth of the ottoman or unplug the USB hub every time.
Also, remember that since you’re getting rid of the drum stand, your foot pedal no longer has a brace to attach to. You can lean the pedal against the ottoman itself, but you’ll probably still get quite a bit of side-to-side movement. If you’re a Rock Pedal (or other 3rd party pedal) user, it will fit inside, but the interior is made out of a faux velvet which doesn’t seem to shed much, but may end up clogging up your velcro hooks.
Conclusion:
The BandBox isn’t a bad offering into the world of gaming peripheral storage. The ottoman itself is pretty bland and non-offensive so it should go with most home decors (or at least blend in to the point where people don’t notice it), but there’s some nice leeway for improvement should the company go for round two. For now however, it’s not a bad storage option for those of us with too many plastic instruments.
